Scouting Groups

Scouting Groups

The Scouts

Meet on Thursdays 7:30pm – 9:00pm in the Scout hut.
Age range is 11 to 14 years.

The Scout Hut is very well equipped including a kitchen and so they are able to do many interesting activities both inside and outside the building, working towards the many badges they can earn. Half of the scout programme takes part out of doors, so that the boys can learn traditional Scouting skills such as camping, survival and cooking. Some of the more adventurous activities are night hiking, rock climbing, abseiling and
yachting. There is always the chance of going on an International camp. Last year one was held at Whatton House, with Scouts and Guides attending from all over the world.

Cubs

Meet on Tuesdays 7:00pm – 8:30pm in the Scout hut.
Ages are 8 - 11 years.

Cub groups like Brownies are very popular and often have a waiting list, so it is always a good idea to get your child's name down. The pack has an average of thirty cubs who enjoy many outdoor activities and work for challenge and individual badges including swimming, music and cooking. As in all the uniformed groups, there is a healthy rivalry on who can get the fullest sleeve of badges. Apparently they particularly enjoy making and eating pancakes but they also get a chance to go camping. When they are out and about on trips to theme parks, farm trips and the zoo etc, it is always remarked on how well
behaved they are.

The Beavers

Meet on Wednesdays 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the Scout hut.
Ages are 6 - 8 years.

Beavers are introduced to the Scouting movement by taking part in interesting activities and games that teach them the skills to interact with each other.
This holds them in good stead for when they move onto the Cubs and hopefully the Scouts. The many badges they can work for include Creative, Experiment, Health & Fitness and Hobbies.
The Beavers enjoy trips out to local places of interest.
There are obviously some good little swimmers in Barrow Beavers because last year they won the District Beavers Swimming Tournament. Well done boys.
