Millennium Group

Millennium Group

The Millennium Group was created prior to 2000 in order to fund-raise sufficient funds to establish a lasting Millennium memorial for the village.

The outcome of their efforts has been the creation of the Millennium Park on the land adjacent to the Fishpool Way development.

There has been substantial planting of native trees and wild plants including a grove of trees planted by village organisations in 2003.

The most striking feature in the park is the sundial which contains one of the biggest gnomons in England. With huge slabs of granite supplied by Lafarge and given enough sunlight to cast a Shadow, you can tell the time with reasonable accuracy. A plaque explains how the sundial was built.

The sundial is skirted by a wheelchair friendly path which is much used by dog-walkers.

There is an on-going programme of bulb and wild flower planting so that, eventually, the park will be full of colour at different times of the year.

The group has now disbanded but you may be able to get further information, from Mike Morley on 01509 412982 or kateandmike@mkmorley.fsnet.co.uk
