Who remembers Doctor Carrot and Potato Pete?

Who remembers Doctor Carrot and Potato Pete? Well, whether you do or not, come along to the next Gardening Club meeting on Wednesday Nov 16th at 7.30 p.m. in the Gap at the back of the Barrow Upon Soar Baptist Church in Beveridge Street. The presenter, Felicity Austin is coming to talk about 'Digging for Victory'. At the start of World War Two, Britain only produced about a third of the food needed to feed the population with the rest being imported. Therefore, we needed to increase our food production and all over the country people were urged to dig up their lawns and flower beds and 'do their bit' by growing their own fruit and vegetables. Public parks and open spaces were also dug up and turned into allotments. Find out more about the success of the campaign as well as all sorts of fascinating facts about World War Two. Everybody is very welcome, guests and visitors on the night just £3.
